We sat down for a chat and a strong cup of coffee to discover a little more about Lindy and her history with AltGen

Tell us a bit about what it was like growing up with AltGen?
It’s been great. AltGen has always embedded creativity, autonomy, and responsibility into its team, which in turn has also been hugely beneficial for both AltGen and its employees in its growth. I think this is a trait AltGen will always take with it.
What were some of the growing pains of starting out in the renewable energy recruitment space?
I would say skills transfer. At the start of RE in SA (our origins), there were very few skills with RE experience since the market was so new. We had to be creative and think out the box for our clients.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Learning and knowledge share. Every engagement with our clients or networks is an opportunity to expand one’s knowledge and optimise the way we do things.
What skills do you think AltGen will be looking to add to the family in the next few years?
There will always be a need to expand on the team we currently have as the market develops and our services are relied on, but in terms of new skills, I would see it falling within the BI, market research and dev space.
What do you do for fun?
Trying out new experiences for sure, life is too short not to… and gardening 😉
Did AltGen have a big-brother kind of company in the early stages? Someone to look up to?
I think we were the big brother considering we were one of the early adopters of RE as a niche in the recruitment industry in South Africa.
What technology do you anticipate making the biggest bang in the industry this year?
Solar and BESS will always lead the way due to pricing and how advanced the technology is in comparison to its counterparts. If the question is which advances in climate tech, will we see becoming a hot topic, I would say, are we going to see trading, wheeling and carbon capture and storage.
What would you say is the most special thing about AltGen?
It’s people, no doubt.
What advice would you give to youngsters looking to get into the renewable energy space?
If you are truly passionate about renewable energy you should make it clear to prospective employers during the job hunting and interview process. You would be surprised how often a shared vision and mission along with a clear drive to be in the industry goes.
How do you feel about implementing 4pm end of workday on a Friday?
We could have a 3-day work week as long as we are achieving or exceeding our goals 😊.
If you could share one pearl of wisdom, one golden nugget of advice for those coming after you, what would it be?
There are things within our control and others out, but the majority can be self-determined by you. So really, the choice of succeeding is up to you, take the bull by the horns.
