Tell us a bit about what it was like growing up with AltGen?
I am passionate about sustainability, fascinated by people, and thrive in the ever-changing pace of business – I have always both been very entrepreneurial so this has been an enjoyable journey, one which I am nowhere near completing as yet.
What were some of the growing pains of starting out in the renewable energy recruitment space?
Always challenges that we have risen to deal with. There is always another threat of some sort to the industry, economy, business and early days are no different to maturing days.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Solving my clients’ problems and making a difference in people’s lives. I always say I have the best job in the world as I am paid to have coffee and chat all day.
Do you have a favourite memory from the early days of working at AltGen?
My time spent on site and in board rooms – I love seeing people grow and develop and love comparing how the discussion at Boardroom tables flows.
What skills do you think AltGen will be looking to add to the family in the next few years?
BI and Data Scientists to pool all our knowledge so it is easily and quickly retrievable and updated constantly.
Sometimes working in the recruitment industry can be difficult, how have you managed to stay motivated throughout the last 12 years?
Be passionate about what you do then you don’t need to be motivated.
What do you do for fun?
Travel and explore (people and places); read, paint and go to the theatre.
Did AltGen have a big-brother kind of company in the early stages? Someone to look up to?
None – I worked for a recruitment firm for two years before venturing out on my own – I was useless in that environment and hence made sure that I did things differently.
What advice would you give to youngsters looking to get into the renewable energy space?
Don’t let fear stand in your way of trying – take the bulls by the horns and own your own journey (and fail fast).
How do you feel about implementing 4pm end of workday on a Friday?
My team know that it’s not the hours that matters but what goes into the hours.
If you could share one pearl of wisdom, one golden nugget of advice for those coming after you, what would it be?
Those coming after me: run fast!!
