ESTABISHLED IN 2023
AltGen Namibian branch was opened in 2023 and has been developed in order to service the burgeoning renewable energy and sustainability sectors in Namibia. Namibia’s stable economy and its recent push to decarbonisation have led to massive investment into some very interesting projects.
This fascinating country is home to the world’s oldest desert, which has been around for roughly 55 million years, and has some of the highest dunes on the planet. You can also find the largest population of free-roaming cheetahs here as well as the second largest canyon in the world.
Namibia is blessed with abundant sunshine, making it an ideal location for solar energy projects. The country receives some of the highest levels of solar irradiation in the world.
Namibia’s coastal regions experience strong and consistent winds, making wind power another viable renewable energy option. According to Irena’s 2019 report, solar energy contributes to roughly 30% of Namibia’s annual electricity generation while hydro/marine energy makes up the biggest portion, contributing to roughly 70%. Other forms of renewable energy used include bioenergy and geothermal energy.
In addition to the mentioned renewable energy sources above, Namibia is set to be one of the leaders in green hydrogen projects in Africa. It is clear that clean energy access is truly at the heart of the country.
