C&I Project Developer – Solar PV – Cape Town

We are currently in search of Project Developers who have a proven track record of successfully overseeing the entire process of photovoltaic (PV) projects, from inception to the handover phase. Our ideal candidate is deeply committed to their work and boasts an impressive portfolio of solar projects, projects that you have built up over the last 3+ years of your career. The client we are representing is looking for a dynamic and ambitious Project Developer to join their team. This client is a renowned international firm that offers comprehensive solutions in energy management, efficiency, and renewable projects. Their efforts in the energy sector have resulted in annual energy savings of over 1000 GWh.

The perfect candidate for this role will be an experienced Project Developer with expertise in the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. They should possess strong analytical skills and be capable of conducting feasibility studies, as well as yield and risk assessments, in order to determine the viability and bankability of projects. A master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is required, along with a thorough understanding of the land acquisition and permitting processes in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully navigating the planning stages of early-stage development, including bidding and tendering processes. They should also possess comprehensive knowledge of industry laws and regulations, ensuring full compliance with the regulations set forth by NEMA and NERSA. Furthermore, they should have a proactive approach to addressing and mitigating any potential issues that may arise during project implementation.

In addition to technical expertise, the candidate should demonstrate strong business acumen, including experience in developing new business opportunities and managing budgets. They should be capable of working independently while also excelling in a collaborative team environment, even under high-pressure conditions. • Must have a master's degree in Electrical (or Mechanical) Engineering
• PMP certification is highly advantageous

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in PV project development
• A track record of successfully developing and delivering large capital renewable energy projects from conception to consent and have obtained construction approval
• Experience in taking projects through the key planning stages including scoping, submitting planning applications
• Excellent risk management performance to minimize project and development risks
• Experience in interacting with external stakeholders in a professional environment
• Successful participation in bids and tender processes

The Project Developer will assume responsibility for overseeing and orchestrating the entire development process, which encompasses tasks such as tendering, site identification, land acquisition, and permit procurement. The role involves establishing and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including landowners, regulatory authorities, and local communities. Leading a team comprising engineers, consultants, legal experts, and financial associates, the Project Developer will ensure the successful execution of projects. Key responsibilities will include providing valuable input to assess and make informed decisions regarding suitable PV energy sites. Conducting thorough feasibility studies and due diligence will be essential to evaluate the technical and economic viability of potential projects. Additionally, diligent monitoring of project budgets and timelines will be crucial to ensure adherence to schedule and budgetary constraints. The Project Developer will also be responsible for negotiating agreements and project contracts to facilitate smooth project execution.
