Draughtsperson – Solar – Cape Town

Are you a master of precision, known for creating detailed technical drawings for mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical systems (including Single Line Diagrams) for solar projects?

If so, we're looking for a detail-oriented Draughtsperson with expertise in creating accurate technical drawings to join our client’s team and support their solar projects!

Operating for the past 16 years, our client is an industry leader specialising in the funding, development, and operation of solar PV and battery storage solutions. To date, our client has installed over 100 MWp of solar capacity and 30+ MWh of battery storage, playing a key role in advancing renewable energy initiatives within the C&I sector.

As the ideal candidate, you bring 3-5 years of draughting experience with a strong technical and operational foundation, specifically in supporting the development of solar PV projects. With post-matric qualifications in technical drawing (such as Drawing Office Practice and AutoCAD LT certification), you are proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, allowing you to create highly detailed technical drawings for solar projects with ease.

Your sharp eye for detail and commitment to quality ensure that you produce precise, accurate drawings every time. Moreover, you are experienced in conducting site visits to gather the necessary data, translating project specifications into accurate designs, and adept at performing measurements and calculations to determine equipment quantities.

• Post-matric qualifications in technical drawing, such as Drawing Office Practice and AutoCAD LT certification

• Highly capable of collaborating with design teams to support a wide range of general engineering tasks
• Experienced in maintaining high-quality standards by ensuring all drawings align with company standards, IEC-approved symbols, and methodologies
• Proficient in assisting with the Bill of Quantities and creating cable and label schedules, demonstrating strong operational versatility
• Adept at performing quality control checks on technical drawings and efficiently managing administrative tasks to keep projects on track

• Create Detailed Technical Drawings: Produce accurate mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical drawings, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), for C&I solar projects across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa
• Site Visits & Data Gathering: Conduct site visits to gather critical data and ensure drawings reflect real-world conditions for solar installations, enhancing the accuracy of project designs
• Adhere to Industry Standards: Ensure all technical drawings meet company and IEC standards, including compliance with relevant South African building codes and solar industry regulations
• Collaborate with the Design Team: Work closely with engineers and designers to deliver effective solutions, ensuring the integration of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems for solar projects
• Assist with Equipment Quantities: Perform calculations and measurements based on drawings to determine equipment quantities and materials needed for solar energy installations
• Quality Control of Drawings: Conduct thorough quality control (QC) checks on your own work and others, ensuring that all technical drawings are accurate and meet industry and project specifications
• Populate Project-Specific Documentation: Assist in preparing project-specific documentation such as Bill of Quantities, cable schedules, and labelling schedules to support efficient project execution
• Ensure Compliance with Standards: Maintain a high level of accuracy in your work by ensuring all drawings are in line with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and international solar guidelines
• Utilise AutoCAD Software: Proficiently use AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT to create precise and detailed drawings, taking advantage of advanced features like layers, blocks, and dimensioning
• Maintain Effective Communication: Ensure clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and contractors, to ensure accurate implementation of designs in the field

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and Google App Suite
• Fluent in English, both written and verbal
