If you have over 5 years of experience in a health and safety or a quality management role in a construction setting, as well as relevant Occupational Health and Safety tertiary qualifications and registrations (SACPCMP) then you need to keep reading… Our ideal candidate will have a systematic and investigative approach to any HSE issues or risks that may apply. You need to have notable analytical skills as you will conduct HSE audits and risk assessment reports, HSE surveys to ensure adherence to legislation and effective implementation of HSE processes, and manage regular inspections at all workplaces. Knowledge of standard HSE practices such as FEM and/or IOD is essential for this role.

We are seeking a perceptive and organised individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities to oversee all HSE processes within the company and for project and site operations. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, developing and implementing effective HSE programmes, and establishing benchmarks and systems to measure HSE programmes in place. Furthermore, you will be collaborating with stakeholders including internal staff, project management teams and government officials regarding HSE matters and assessments as well as conducting training regarding health and safety for employees on relevant policies and procedures.

  • Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study
  • Registered as a Health and Safety Professional with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP)


  • Knowledge of HSE procedures such as FEM and IOD
  • Ability to analyse and report on HSE-related processes and data
  • Excellent at communicating and collaborating with all relevant stakeholders
  • Experience in and understanding of quality management systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, to identify and resolve problems
  • A productive and organised approach to work
  • Prepared to travel and possess a valid driver’s license


This is an opportunity to be involved in the essential health and safety operations for projects that could significantly improve the socio-economic situation in South Africa. You will be directing and monitoring all HSE processes within the company and for project and site operations. You will need to create and implement HSE programmes and measure the performance of said programmes, ensure company and operations compliance with HSE legislation, collaborate with stakeholders including staff, clients and relevant government officials, and analyse and report on any HSE processes and risk assessments. You will be dealing with confidential documents so a discreet approach to information is important for this role.

Chris Roetz oversees AltGen’s Workforce Management division in the Northern Cape. Currently, Roetz mobilises an outsourced staff complement of over 200 employees. He also steers AltGen’s Solar Works programme in conjunction with his Pofadder based team.

Chris has 20 years of professional experience in an HR and outsourced staffing capacity within the energy environment and holds a National Diploma in Human Resource Management from UNISA.

Muslim Janoowala drives AltGen’s consulting services arm. Muslim has 10+ years of experience in the renewable energy, water and general engineering space in Eastern Africa and has played an instrumental role in the success of AltGen consulting engagement on the AFD Green Mini-grid Programme in Kenya. His expertise caters to M&E activities, project management, impact analysis and assessments of funded water and renewable energy programmes that “enlighten” and uplift communities in rural Africa.

Muslim holds an MSc in Construction Management from Cass Business School and a Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Environment Engineering from the University of Nottingham.
