Description

Are you a driven and organised Legal Counsel Operations expert with sound ethical standards? Do you have a passion for green energy markets? Work for an internationally recognised market leader with over 3000 employees and 3 GW worth of energy capacity in Africa. Having experience in the renewable energy sector is highly beneficial for this role, so be sure to include any significant green energy projects in your application!

If you have a degree in Law and you’re an admitted Attorney in South Africa then keep reading! You need to have a background in a large company and 5 – 10 years of experience in the field of energy, large infrastructure project and/or project finance. This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a strong ability to draft and interpret contracts.

Key responsibilities will be advising on all legal matters and issues in the areas of business, HR management, HSE and SED/ESD and assisting in the preparation and management of contracts. You will be monitoring the use and quality of costs of external legal advisors, assisting the CEO in the management of key contracts, ensuring overall compliance with internal and external policies and procedures, and providing general advice to the clients in relation to socio-economic development and/or any BBBEE related proceedings. Furthermore, you will be required to develop templates for NDAs, contracts and SLAs, and engage and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders including legal advisors, subcontractors, tendering authorities, COOs, CFOs, and CEOs

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in Law from a recognised instituion
  • Being admitted as an Attorney in South Africa is highly beneficial!

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 – 10 years of experience in a large company in the field of large infrastructure, project finance or the energy industry
  • High standards and meticulous approach to work activities
  • Comfortable working with various teams and clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Critical thinking abilities when it comes to company innovation
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and operations to be inline with business objectives 

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will need to advise on all legal matters and issues in the areas of business, HR management, HSE and SED/ESD and aid in the preparation and management of contracts. You need to assist the CEO in the management of key contracts as well as prepare and finalize contracts related to internal and external operations. Communication with various internal and external stakeholders including legal advisors, subcontractors, tendering authorities, COOs, CFOs, and CEOs is important and you will be required to advise Project Companies on legal matters, corporate governance, and land and environmental matters.

SKILLS

  • Proficient in MS office and document management software
  • Fluent in English, any other language is beneficial
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills

Lindy holds a Bachelor’ Degree in Social Sciences from Rhodes University.

Chris Roetz oversees AltGen’s Workforce Management division in the Northern Cape. He is responsible for the successful execution of HR advisory and management services for clients’ utility-scale projects in the region. Currently, Roetz mobilises an outsourced staff complement of over 200 employees. He also steers AltGen’s Solar Works programme in conjunction with his Pofadder based team.

Chris has 20 years of professional experience in an HR and outsourced staffing capacity within the energy environment and holds a National Diploma in Human Resource Management from UNISA.

His expertise caters to M&E activities, project management, impact analysis and assessments of funded water and renewable energy programmes that “enlighten” and uplift communities in rural Africa.

Muslim holds an MSc in Construction Management from Cass Business School and a Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Environment Engineering from the University of Nottingham.
