Description
We're hiring a Legal Counsel to join an established, international IPP based in Cape Town, supporting over 1GW of wind and solar projects, with more developments in the pipeline. In this role, you’ll provide legal support for the company’s project finance activities leveraging your legal experience in energy project financing.
This is a hands-on role with multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, offering the chance to be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial organisation shaping the future of energy.
Education Requirements
- Completed LLB (or equivalent) qualification
Experience Requirements
- At least 5 years' experience in energy project financing
- In-house or secondment experience with a multinational company
- Expertise in project finance, PPA structures, energy markets, and corporate agreements (joint ventures, acquisitions, restructurings)
- Proven ability to lead due diligence processes
- Strong focus on legal risk, relationship management, and compliance (data privacy, anti-bribery, anti-corruption)
Responsibilities
- Assist in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing key contracts
- Maintain familiarity with the terms and conditions across the full suite of legal documents
- Monitor and improve the effectiveness of standard legal instruments to ensure the business’s rights are fully protected
- Support the Head of Legal, in managing and resolving legal issues as delegated
- Identify legal risks, conduct research, and develop strategies to mitigate potential exposures
- Stay informed of legislative changes and case law relevant to the business and the renewable energy sector
- Manage, respond to, and appropriately defend contractual claims and disputes with third parties
- Assist the Head of Legal in initiating or defending legal proceedings, including reviewing litigation progress and liaising with external legal counsel and other advisors
- Engage with internal and external legal and advisory resources as needed
Skills
- Strong negotiation skills are essential
- A self-starter with the ability to prioritise work

- Ability to work cross-functionally with all departments
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Fluent in English (fluency in other languages is considered an advantage)
