Project Developer – Solar PV – Johannesburg

We are currently seeking Project Developers who possess a remarkable track record of overseeing the entire PV project process until the construction handover phase to ensure the clients' satisfaction. Our ideal candidate will be highly committed to their work and have an impressive portfolio of solar projects under their belt. Our client is seeking a dynamic and driven Project Developer to join their team. Our client is a large international firm with holistic solutions to energy management, efficiency and renewable projects, their efforts within the energy sector have resulted in over 1000 GWh of energy savings per year. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Project Developer with experience in the C&I development space, someone who is equipped with strong analysis skills, and the ability to conduct feasibility studies, as well as yield and risk assessments  – understanding what makes a project bankable.. You need to have a master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering along with a comprehensive understanding of the South African land acquisition and permitting processes. You are experienced in taking projects through the key planning stages of early-stage development and have a track record of projects which have successfully made it through the bidding and tendering process. Not only are you well-versed with industry laws and regulations but you are adept at ensuring that all projects comply with the regulations set forth by NEMA and NERSA. Furthermore, you have diligently undertaken all necessary measures by mitigating any potential issues that may arise.

You possess strong business acumen, with experience in developing new business opportunities and managing budgets. You also have the ability to work independently and collaborate excellently when working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  You have a positive, "can-do" attitude and the ability to manage time and tasks efficiently, you thrive in high-pressure environments, and meeting tight deadlines is your speciality!

• Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• PMP certification is highly beneficial

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar PV project development
• A track record of successfully developing and delivering large capital renewable energy projects from conception to consent and have obtained construction approval
• Experience in taking projects through the key planning stages including scoping, submitting planning applications
• Excellent risk management performance to minimize project and development risks
• Experience in interacting with external stakeholders in a professional environment
• Successful participation in bids and tender processes
• Proficient in operating Helioscope
• Exceptional key account management

The Project Developer will be in charge of overseeing and coordinating the entire development process, encompassing tendering, identifying suitable sites, acquiring land, and obtaining permits. The position requires building and maintaining relationships with important stakeholders, such as landowners, regulatory bodies, and local communities. You will be leading a team composed of engineers, consultants, legal counsel, and financial associates. As the Project Developer, you will ensure that projects are successfully carried out. You will be expected to make impactful contributions to the evaluation and decision-making process regarding suitable PV energy sites. You will conduct feasibility studies and due diligence to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of potential projects, as well as monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure that they are completed within schedule and budget constraints. Additionally, the Project Developer will be responsible for negotiating agreements and project contracts.
