    Our client is a distinguished renewable energy provider specializing in utility-scale solar and on-shore wind technologies, effectively managing and operating an impressive estimate of 1.5 GW of renewable energy projects.     They are looking for a Senior Business Development Manager, to join their dedicated team of highly skilled engineers and environmental specialists whose expertise and passion drive the success of their projects. We share our client’s aim which is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change.

    The ideal candidate would be collaborating with their Business Development team to shape and execute our client’s overarching strategy in South Africa. Your role involves originating project development and M&A opportunities in sectors like Commercial & Industrial, and Energy Trading. You would lead our participation in the REIPP program, overseeing tender reviews, bid responses, and project development until financial closure. Your responsibilities also include negotiating crucial agreements, managing risks, leading due diligence processes, and preparing reports for internal approvals and presentations. Your expertise will be pivotal in securing permits, coordinating with various teams, and driving successful project acquisitions. We're looking for someone to lead and innovate in the renewable energy sector, and your experience will be invaluable in steering us towards our goals.

    Education Requirements

    • Electrical engineering degree required, no MBA required

    Experience Requirements

    • Proven track record of projects that have reached financial close
    • Essential requirements for Project Management
    • Experience within the power industry is a must.
    • Prior experience in project finance is crucial.
    • Familiarity and experience working in South Africa are essential.
    • In-depth experience within the renewable energy sector is necessary

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborating with the Business Development team, contribute to defining and executing IPH's comprehensive Business Development Strategy in South Africa.
    • Initiate project development and M&A prospects in South Africa across sectors like Commercial and industrial, as well as Energy Trading.
    • Take charge of IPH's involvement in the REIPP program, encompassing the assessment of tender prerequisites, formation, and submission of bid responses.
    • Lead the progress of projects towards financial closure, acquiring necessary permits, and ensuring seamless collaboration with finance, the financial modeling team, legal, HR, technical, and operational teams.
    • Spearhead negotiations for various documents such as Offtake Agreements, JDA Term Sheets, Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), Shareholder Agreements, and Share Purchase Agreements, collaborating with legal and finance departments.
    • Identify, oversee, and mitigate risks throughout the development phase and into construction and operations.
    • Manage due diligence processes for M&A and Project Finance transactions, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, negotiating key project documents like PPAs, SPAs, and Finance Agreements.
    • Coordinate due diligence exercises, review data rooms, aid in valuation, and assist in offer preparation for project acquisitions and financial closure.
    • Draft and manage internal reports and investment papers presenting project deals for internal approvals up to board level, and support both internal and external presentations.
