We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Solar Design Engineer (min of 4+ years of design experience) to join an international developer and operator of PV plants with major funding shareholders backing them and who has more recently entered the South African market. Our client operates in the commercial and industrial space, with nearly 250 MW of solar projects across various jurisdictions and a portfolio of nearly 360 000 MWh in counting. Their end goal is to make a positive impact on the environment while enabling commercial users to reduce their energy costs and remain connected to an uninterrupted energy supply.
As a Senior Design Engineer in the solar space, you have an opportunity to join this forward-thinking firm in which you will play a pivotal role in driving the client’s vision for the expansion of greener and more reliable solar energy developments in Southern Africa. If you are the professional, we are looking for, you are articulate in your verbal communications, well presented, and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and execute tough technical projects using a logical approach. If you have a bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering from an esteemed university and have an impressive renewable energy portfolio where you have conducted feasibility studies, produced designs, and conducted system analysis and recommendations on solar systems portfolios ranging between 300kW to 10MW as well as optimized operational PV assets – then you are the person we want to speak to. We are looking for a master of AutoCAD and PVSyst software systems.
As the Senior Design Engineer, you will be the driving force behind their solar power projects. You will apply your technical expertise when spearheading the power projects from concept to completion and in turn PV optimizations. Responsibilities include the development of accurate and detailed design processes including system sizing, layout, and equipment selection. You will also be expected to collaborate and advise cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution at the design and implementation phase. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio of successfully implemented solar designs and showcase an excellent understanding of industry-relevant codes and standards.

Education Requirements
- Eng or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering
- Accredited design sources would be highly beneficial
- Qualification in the renewable energy sector is beneficial
Experience Requirements
- 4 - 6 years of technical experience in producing high-level designs for photovoltaic, off-grid, hybrid, and grid-tied solar solutions
- Proficiency in advanced industry-related design tools such as AutoCAD, and design software such as PVSyst, and Helioscope
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to train fellow team members
- Proven track record of solar system designs
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for solar systems
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include leading the design engineering team with an in-depth understanding of the solar industry and proven technical expertise. Efficiently leading the design and development process of solar energy systems. The Senior Design Engineer will analyze the performance quality of the systems to identify areas of improvement within system designs, performance, or equipment specifications. Responsibilities also extend to design evaluations and product testing while ensuring that the project is concluded in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Senior Design Engineer will also assess the site and conduct feasibility studies to determine the optimal use of resources and achieve efficient performance projections. The use of design-related tools and software is pivotal and incorporated within the workflow of the Senior Design Engineer.
