Our client is a recognised leader in the C&I solar Industry with over 200 successful solar and battery storage projects delivered across Sub-Saharan Africa. Operating as an EPC and O&M provider, they’re seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer to take charge of the technical and strategic aspects of the project lifecycle – from initial client assessment through project delivery and post-installation support.

As the Senior Design Engineer, you will be at the centre of C&I solar projects overseeing design, costing, and bid compilation for cutting-edge energy solutions. This role is dynamic and multifaceted will not be one dimensional; your day-to-day will be a unique blend of technical design, project management, and client engagement. You’ll lead activities such as yield analysis, shading analysis, and plant optimisation, ensuring each project is meticulously crafted and meets the client’s needs.

Our ideal candidate has 5+ years in the Solar PV and BESS industry with a track record in the C&I sector. You are a strong negotiator adept at engaging clients and tailoring solutions to their needs. You have comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards and a deep technical understanding of the solar PV and battery storage systems.

• Eng. in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering

• Minimum of 4 years in the Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry, specifically within the C&I sector
• In-depth understanding of industry practices, regulatory requirements, and technical standards

• Solar PV & Battery Storage Design and Implementation: Design and optimise grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) plants on commercial and industrial buildings. Conduct yield and shading analyses to ensure optimal energy production. Develop solar plant layouts and create single-line diagrams. Perform tariff analyses to align with client requirements. Assess client needs to tailor project designs effectively.
• Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design: Lead the design, analysis, and optimisation of micro-grids and battery energy storage systems. Perform simulations and battery sizing to ensure efficient energy storage solutions.
• Bid and Costing Management: Prepare cost estimates for bids, ensuring competitive and feasible pricing. Develop a detailed description of the design approach and optimisation strategies. Compile commercial bids and tender submissions, including technical plant descriptions and financial feasibility calculations.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and subcontractor requirements in bids.
• Supplier and Stakeholder Engagement: Network with suppliers for pricing negotiations, sourcing alternative suppliers and technologies. Maintain awareness of stock availability and manage supplier relationships. Collaborate with local authorities and utility providers to secure regulatory approvals and generation licenses.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration and Support: Work across departments to ensure the optimal performance of project designs. Provide support for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities as required. Conduct site assessments during the bidding phase and lead product research to improve project proposals.
• Standards Development and General Administration: Contribute to developing departmental standards, procedures, and documentation. Perform general administrative tasks, ensuring thorough documentation and record-keeping.
