Senior Substation Engineer – Renewable Energy – Ireland

We are looking for a Senior Substation Engineer to take on the design through to commissioning of transmission and distribution projects across the United Kingdom and Europe. If you have a detailed understanding of the design and operation of substation control systems through to SCADA systems, then our client is looking for someone like you to join them and implement engineering practices in power systems development. 

To be the right person for the job, you will need a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering accompanied by at least 5+ years of experience in the development and construction of substations. If you have previous project management experience, be sure to add that in your application as that will help put you ahead of the rest! In order to succeed as the Senior Substation Engineer, you need to have good knowledge of project management, risk management, and tender and project processes, contacts management, costing and regulatory procedures. It is also important that you understand the design and operation of modern protection relay technology and substation automation as well as the design of primary electrical plants in transmission and distribution substations. You need to be someone who is analytically inclined, has excellent project, financial and time management skills, and has the ability to work both in a team as well as independently. You will find yourself playing a pivotal role in the projects, from a technical advisory perspective right through to stakeholder engagement, as you mentor and lead a team under your direct guidance.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• PSDP Competency HV1/ HV2 (or CDMC equivalent)
• Site work competency DS 2/ DS3

• Strong expertise in Substation Tendering and Tender evaluations, scoping, planning, design, costing, construction and commissioning (please highlight the projects you have worked on)
• Must have project management and contract management experience as well as having executed on PSDP/CDMC processes
• Experience in designing 10/ 20 kV, 38 kV, 110 kV and 220 kV substations
• Proven experience in control and protection systems
• Experience in Auxiliary Power Systems (AC/DC)
• Expert in matters pertaining to Power transformers and or reactors

• Excellent contractor negotiation skills
