We are seeking an experienced HV Substation Electrician, proficient in German with 5-10 years of hands-on expertise to install, maintain, and repair high-voltage equipment, including switchgear, transformers, cables, and grounding systems. The ideal candidate will perform electrical testing, ensure compliance with safety standards, and support the overall construction process.

Your expertise in setting up primary and secondary circuits, as well as configuring and testing relay protection, RTUs, and HMI/SCADA systems, will be crucial in ensuring the seamless operation of substations. Your proficiency in testing overhead lines, power cables, and transformers will allow you to guarantee the reliability and safety of key infrastructure components. Additionally, a deep understanding of safety regulations and risk assessments will enable you to maintain high standards of safety and compliance on-site, ensuring smooth project execution.

Furthermore, your adaptability to work in diverse and remote locations, along with your willingness to handle extended hours, will be key to successfully managing complex, large-scale projects across challenging environments, ultimately ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of energy systems in renewable energy projects.

• A Vocational or Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems

• 5-10 years of experience as an electrician in HV substations, preferably in renewable energy
• Hands-on expertise with high-voltage systems, substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers), and electrical safety protocols
• Proven ability to construct operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HV substations
• Proficient in reading schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical manuals
• Experience in diverse, multinational environments with knowledge of varying regulatory and safety standards
• Strong understanding of project timelines, budgets, and resource management, with experience supporting or managing HV projects

• High-Voltage Equipment Installation: Install and assemble key substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, busbars, and grounding systems, ensuring correct alignment and secure connections
• Substation Wiring and Cabling: Manage the installation of high-voltage power cables and control wiring, ensuring safe and efficient routing, securing, and insulation of all electrical connections
• Grounding System Installation: Install and test earthing systems, including grounding rods and conductors, to ensure safe fault discharge and compliance with safety standards
• Electrical Testing and Inspections: Conduct insulation resistance, continuity, and grounding resistance testing to verify the safety and functionality of electrical installations in high-voltage substation
• Maintenance and Repairs: Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting of high-voltage electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and reduce downtime
• Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Lead efforts to diagnose and resolve electrical faults, performing inspections and tests to minimise system disruptions and ensure rapid issue resolution
• Safety and Compliance: Ensure all installations and maintenance procedures comply with South African and international electrical safety standards, performing risk assessments and adhering to safety protocols
• Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers during substation construction and equipment setup, contributing technical expertise and supporting project planning
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, tests, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines
• Travel and Remote Location Work: Willingness to travel to remote substation sites, supporting setup, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance, with flexibility for long hours and extended durations

• Expertise in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting SCADA
• Strong proficiency in English and German
• Strong analytical abilities
• A Class B driver's license is required; additional licenses for BE, C, and CE are advantageous
