Position Overview

An established renewable energy investment group focused on delivering sustainable solar energy solutions is seeking a Financial Accountant / Controller to take responsibility for the full accounting function across its investment group of companies.

The business generates revenue primarily through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and manages a diverse portfolio of subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates. The successful candidate will support the Finance Team across these entities and develop a strong understanding of the accounting requirements of the investment side of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Group Accounting

  • Review monthly reports for accuracy before invoices are issued.

  • Ensure annual increases are applied where applicable.

  • Ensure all monthly invoices are prepared and issued to clients.

  • Monitor debtor accounts and follow up on overdue payments.

  • Review fixed monthly rental invoices before issue.

  • Calculate and submit VAT returns for South African and international companies.

  • Prepare and post month-end journals.

  • Maintain monthly loan schedules and reconcile these with NetSuite and relevant loan agreements.

  • Review and approve weekly payments.

  • Prepare audit files and assist auditors with annual audits across all entities.

  • Assist with the review of annual financial statements received from auditors.

  • Assist with tax calculations and tax return submissions.

  • Maintain the monthly rooftop schedule.

  • Provide ad hoc support to the Investments Finance Team, Financial Manager and CFO.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completed BCom or BAcc financial degree.

  • Completed postgraduate diploma or equivalent.

  • Completed articles.

  • Registered with CIMA, SAIPA or SAICA.

  • Minimum of 2 years' post-articles experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage accounting responsibilities across multiple entities simultaneously.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence working with financial systems.

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise effectively.

  • Professional stakeholder communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a finance team.

Important Note

Applicants must have completed a BCom or BAcc degree, a relevant postgraduate qualification and articles, with at least 2 years' post-articles experience. Registration with CIMA, SAIPA or SAICA is required. Candidates must also be comfortable managing accounting responsibilities across multiple entities.
