Position Overview:
Our client is an international renewable energy developer and EPC contractor specialising in solar PV, energy storage and hybrid power systems. With operations spanning Europe and Africa, they are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with 5 to 7 years of experience to join their technical team and own civil engineering activities across projects from development and design through construction and commissioning.
The role leads and supports the civil and structural engineering of utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, and hybrid projects, with a particular focus on bulk earthworks, site grading, drainage, and stormwater management.
Responsibilities:
Leading civil and structural design, including site layouts, bulk earthworks, foundations, access roads, drainage, and structural supports
Reviewing geotechnical, hydrological and topographical studies
Optimising site layouts and cut-and-fill to improve constructability and reduce project costs
Developing and reviewing stormwater, drainage and erosion-control solutions
Reviewing contractor designs, method statements and shop drawings
Ensuring designs comply with applicable international and local codes and standards
Conducting site inspections and resolving civil engineering issues during construction
Supporting quality control and project HSE requirements
Coordinating civil designs with electrical and mechanical engineering teams
Supporting project managers with scheduling, cost estimating and project risk management
Requirements:
BEng/BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering
Chartered/Professional Engineer status, or be working towards registration
5–7 years' experience in civil design and project execution
Experience on large-scale infrastructure and/or utility-scale solar PV projects
Strong knowledge of bulk earthworks, grading, drainage, stormwater management and erosion control
Experience with relevant design/modelling software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS or drainage design tools
Knowledge of applicable standards, including SANS 1200, BS EN 1990 and BS 6031
Ability to work across different international regulatory environments
Strong written and verbal English communication skills; French would be advantageous
Willingness to travel locally and internationally for project and site support
