We are seeking an experienced Site Civil Engineer to support the delivery of a major 500 MW+ utility-scale Solar PV and BESS project in Maun, Botswana.
The role will provide project owner-side civil engineering oversight from pre-construction and detailed design through site execution, commissioning and handover. The successful candidate will monitor the EPC Contractor's civil engineering and construction activities, ensuring compliance with approved designs, project specifications, quality requirements and programme milestones.
This position requires strong utility-scale Solar PV civil experience, particularly across earthworks, drainage, roads, piling/foundations, tracker infrastructure and major site civil packages.
Key Responsibilities
Provide owner-side oversight of EPC civil engineering and construction activities.
Review civil designs, drawings, specifications, method statements and construction documentation.
Monitor civil works against approved designs, specifications and project programme.
Oversee site preparation, earthworks, grading, drainage, roads and access infrastructure.
Oversee piling, tracker foundations and structural foundation works across the Solar PV field.
Monitor civil works associated with inverter/transformer stations, BESS infrastructure and electrical equipment.
Support oversight of civil and structural works associated with substations and transmission infrastructure.
Review geotechnical information, surveys and site conditions and identify potential construction risks.
Monitor EPC Contractor and subcontractor progress, productivity, workmanship and compliance.
Identify civil works affecting the project's critical path and escalate potential delays.
Review and resolve civil RFIs, technical queries, constructability issues and site/design discrepancies with the technical team.
Monitor inspection and testing requirements, ITPs, NCRs and corrective actions in coordination with QA/QC.
Support assessment of civil design changes, deviations and proposed variations.
Maintain accurate site records and provide input where civil issues may result in claims, variations or programme impacts.
Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical, mechanical, BESS, substation and transmission work packages.
Support construction completion, punch-list closure and handover.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
Approximately 8+ years' relevant civil engineering/construction experience.
Proven experience on large utility-scale Solar PV projects, preferably 300 MW+.
Strong practical experience with earthworks, drainage, roads, piling, foundations and tracker civil works.
Experience working within a turnkey/full-wrap EPC project environment.
Ability to review and challenge EPC civil designs and construction methodologies.
Strong understanding of geotechnical investigations, surveys and foundation requirements.
Experience monitoring contractor progress, quality and construction compliance.
Strong understanding of RFIs, NCRs, ITPs, method statements and construction documentation.
Experience working through pre-construction/design into site construction and handover.
Must be willing to be site-based in Maun, Botswana.
