The Site Electrician is responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance across a solar PV plant, ensuring that all HSE procedures are followed. The role is responsible for supporting maximum plant availability and performance, preparing technical reports on plant events, conducting root cause analysis and implementing plant optimisation projects under the guidance of the Site Supervisor and Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance
Plan, prepare for, manage and execute preventive maintenance activities on the solar plant while ensuring all HSE procedures are followed.
Carry out substation maintenance in accordance with the annual maintenance schedule.
Carry out E-House maintenance in accordance with the annual maintenance schedule.
Carry out General Junction Box (GJB) maintenance in accordance with the annual maintenance schedule.
Carry out Array Junction Box (AJB) maintenance in accordance with the annual maintenance schedule.
Maintain the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant and water filtration system in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
Conduct infrared scans of panels, AJBs, GJBs, transformers and inverters.
Conduct scheduled inspections of the substation, E-House, GJBs, AJBs and RO plant.
Inspect, test, diagnose and maintain the CCTV system.
Corrective Maintenance
Respond to all alarms triggered on the solar plant.
Resolve plant trips as soon as possible.
Attend to breakdowns, conduct fault finding and root cause analysis, and resolve, repair or replace faulty equipment with minimal energy loss.
Diagnose and replace PV panels.
Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace cables, cable interconnections, PV junction/string boxes, connectors and fuses in PV systems.
Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace transformers.
Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace HV yard equipment.
Diagnose, repair and/or replace switchgear and control gear in PV systems.
Plant Operations & Reporting
Maintain the solar/diesel hybrid system, including batteries.
Apply root cause analysis techniques to all major and recurring faults.
Investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical reports.
Generate Work Order (WO) requests for onsite intervention through the CMMS/ERP system.
Enforce HSE compliance among contractors.
Work with the Site Supervisor, Technician and Plant Manager on plant optimisation.
Perform standby duties as required.
Train and mentor interns.
Interact with grid control as required.
Maintain records and manage spare part movements.
Report significant events to the Site Supervisor and Plant Manager.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Site Supervisor that are in line with the role.
Requirements
Red Seal Electrician qualification
ORHVS Certification advantageous
Driver's license
Previous proven experience on a Solar PV Plant is advantageous
Important Note
Applicants must have the electrical and technical capability required to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a utility-scale solar PV plant, including fault finding and root cause analysis across PV panels, junction boxes, cables, transformers, HV yard equipment, switchgear and control gear. Candidates must also be able to work in accordance with HSE requirements and support plant availability, technical reporting and optimisation activities.
